Devotion 1 of 2: Job 39

God continues to challenge Job in this chapter, pointing out how he is in control of the many animals in nature and asking if Job could do the same. The animals include: wild mountain goats, deer (v.1), wild donkey, onager (v.5), wild ox (v.9), ostrich (v.13), horse (v.19), and hawk (v.26). We don’t see Job’s response in this chapter, but, of course, it would be, “I can’t!” When God reveals himself, man can do nothing but admit his smallness and weakness! Let’s help people to encounter the living God!

Devotion 2 of 2: Heb 12

(2/2)
1) Many years ago, when I was angry with someone, God chastened me by preventing me from sleeping. I tossed and turned in my bed thinking about how that person had offended me, and I couldn’t sleep until 3 or 4 in the morning! Finally, I cried out to God to help me to sleep, and God answered me in a clear voice in my mind, “Forgive that person!” I was stunned! I knew God was speaking to me! But I still had anger, so I couldn’t do it! Finally, I cried out to God, “I can’t do it on my own, so please help me to forgive!” Right after I prayed that from my heart, I fell asleep! The next day, when I woke up, I was completely free of anger! Truly God chastens us for our good!
2) David was the 8th son of Jesse (1 Sam 17:12, 14), but he gained the firstborn’s blessing of kingship (1 Sam 16:1, 13) because of his pure heart (1 Sam 16:7). Acts 13:22 says David had a heart after God. To fulfill our calling as the church of the firstborn, we need to have a good heart that seeks God foremost rather than size or wealth or buildings, etc.
