Devotion 1 of 1: Job 1
Because at the beginning of this story, Job was a wealthy and successful man with a wonderful family, but he lost everything (Job 1), including his health (Job 2:7-8)! After many trials and learning many things, Job is restored double in wealth, success, and health and is given an even more wonderful family (Job 42:12-15).
MATT 1 sharing:
In Jesus’ genealogy, we find 4 women: Tamar (v.3), Rahab and Ruth (v.5) and Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah (v.6). All 4 had questionable backgrounds which normally a famous person would want to delete from their genealogy because of shame. Tamar committed immorality with Judah (Gen 38), Rahab was a Gentile harlot (Josh 2:1), Ruth was a Moabitess (Ruth 1:4), and Bathsheba committed adultery with David (2 Sam 11). But why were these women included in Jesus’ lineage? I believe it was to give mankind hope, that even though our family background might have failure and sin, if we are faithful to God, he will accept us and use us for his glory!
