Devotion 1 of 2: Gen 37
1) Joseph brought a bad report of his brothers to Jacob (v.2), which shows he didn’t love them.
2) Joseph’s brothers sold him as a slave to Ishmaelites, and they took him to Egypt (v.25-28). 15 years later, Joseph forgave his brothers and said that it wasn’t they, but God, who sent him to Egypt (Gen 45:3-8)!
So Joseph changed from one who didn’t love his brothers, but instead bad-mouthed them, to one who loved them and forgave them for a terrible thing they did to him because he could see it was God’s doing!

Devotion 2 of 2: Gen 38
(2/2)
At this time, Judah had no brotherly love. He was the one who suggested Joseph be sold as a slave to the Ishmaelites (37:26-28). Then he left his brothers (v.1). He probably couldn’t stand being with them! We know this because his sons were like that! His oldest son, Er, was killed by God because he was so evil (v.7)! Judah told his 2nd son, Onan, to marry Er’s widow, Tamar, but Onan didn’t want to help his brother, so he emitted on the ground (v.8-9)! So he didn’t have any brotherly love, just like his father! So what happened? God killed him, too (v.10)!
It was through these tragedies that Judah’s eyes were finally opened to realize his not loving his brothers was a terrible sin which produced tragic consequences! I believe he repented, went back to live with his family, and when he went with his brothers to Egypt to buy grain, he even volunteered to become a slave to Joseph to save Benjamin! That’s what Joseph was waiting for! That’s when he revealed himself to his brothers! God wants his LDC to be a church of love! Because Joseph learned through many trials to forgive and love his brothers, he could lift them up to love also!
