Devotion 1 of 2: Mal 1

God says in v.2b-3a, “Jacob I have loved; but Esau I have hated…” We find their story in Gen 25:21-26. Before Rebekah’s twin babies were born, God told her, “…the older shall serve the younger.” Many people stumble over this episode and accuse God of being biased or a hateful God for choosing Jacob over Esau before they had done anything! But I believe that God could see into the future and understood that Esau would despise his firstborn birthright, and Jacob would receive it (Gen 25:27-34), so that’s why he declared Esau would serve Jacob! And I believe God loves every human being (John 3:16), so he loved Esau, too. So the words, “Esau I have hated,” mean he hated Esau’s evil acts, and not Esau the man. Let’s interpret the Bible using the whole Bible, not just one verse.

Devotion 2 of 2: Rev 19

1) It is called the Battle of Armageddon, and the name comes from Rev 16:16 because AC’s armies will gather at a place called Megiddo, in the middle of a vast plain in Israel. Armageddon comes from Har, which means mount, and Megiddo because there is a small mount there. Harmegiddo changed over the years to Armageddon.

2) The opposing forces will be AC’s army from many nations (Zech 14:2a), Israel’s army, and Christ’s army of saints in the end (Rev 19:14; Zech 14:5b).
It will be fought because Satan wants to destroy Israel and stop God’s plan to restore her as his people.
The outcome is that Jesus will defeat and destroy AC’s army and throw AC and the false prophet into the lake of fire (Rev 19:20-21). Also, the remaining Jews will be saved and Israel’s restoration as the people of God will be completed (Zech 13:9).
