Devotion 1 of 2: Heb 12

1) The famous Ps 48:1-2 passage about Mt. Zion reveals she is the city of God, His holy mountain, beautiful in elevation, and the joy of the whole earth! Also, the spiritual application is that she is called to be the bride of the Son of God, the ruler of the universe! What an unbelievable honor!

2) David. Although born the 8th son (1 Sam 16:10), God chose David to be the firstborn because of the goodness of his heart (16:7) and gave him the firstborn blessing of kingship (16:13). Becoming the head of the family, or ruling as a king, was part of the firstborn right. It should have gone to Eliab, the natural 1stborn, but we see his heart was not good when he rebuked David (17:26-30) out of jealousy and anger. David became the greatest king of Israel and led the nation to her Golden Era. We want to enter the Golden Era of the greatest revival in history by fulfilling our calling as the firstborn church, like David!

Devotion 2 of 2: Mic 5

After the famous verse of the birthplace of Jesus (v.2), Amos prophesies judgment on Assyria and other enemies of Israel. V.5-6 present a puzzle, though. They say that when Assyria invades Israel, he will be defeated! But the opposite happened! It was Assyria who defeated northern Israel and then took them captive! So was this prophecy wrong?

I think we should understand it this way. This prophecy applied to Judah, not to northern Israel. After defeating Israel, when Assyria attacked Judah, God sent an angel who killed 185,000 Assyrian soldiers in one night! Assyria retreated in defeat, their king was assassinated and not long after, Babylon destroyed them. So in studying prophecies, we must always consider who the prophecy was directed to!
