Devotion 1 of 2: Neh 7
In v.64, we see the importance of keeping an accurate record of genealogies in the Bible. Some who claimed to be priests were not accepted because their names were not found among those registered in the genealogy of priests. Thank God that our names are found in the Book of Life! We must urge all to believe in Jesus so their names will also be listed because if not, they’ll not be able to enter eternal life!

Devotion 2 of 2: Neh 8
1) They stood up (v.5), said “Amen, Amen!” while lifting their hands, bowing their heads and worshiping the Lord with their faces to the ground (v.6), wept (v.9), ate and drank and rejoiced greatly because they understood (v.12). They did so because it was the first time they heard and understood the Law.
2) Actually, several Scriptures show the FOT was kept during the OT: 2 Chron 8:13, 1 Kings 8:2, and 2 Chron 31:3. So the best way to understand Neh 8:17 is that it is talking about the way they celebrated the FOT! In Nehemiah’s day, it was done by “the whole assembly,” by “making booths and sitting in them,” and “with very great gladness.” So no other FOT had been done quite as thoroughly as that! Let’s learn to answer “contradictory verses” in the Bible to defend our faith against critics!
