Devotion 1 of 2: 1 John 5

1 JOHN 5: This chapter contains a number of teachings about various important topics. Let’s seek God and share what he shows us or answer these questions:
1) In v.7-8, we see there are 3 witnesses in heaven and 3 on earth. The 3 witnesses in heaven are the Triune God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. If we look at the 3 witnesses on earth as baptisms, what would we call them? (3 answers: A, B & C) (Hint: There is a baptism that takes place when we are saved and added to the body of Christ–1 Cor 12:13).

2) V.18 is another verse that claims a born-again believer does not sin! Others are 3:6, 9. John Wesley believed these verses and taught that it was possible to live a sinless life if one sought God and reached “sanctification,” or the “2nd work of grace” (the 1st being salvation), or the baptism of the Holy Spirit (without tongues). Some of his followers, like the Free Methodists, Fundamental Wesleyans, and some Holiness groups also believed this. Do you believe it’s possible to live a sinless life on earth now? If not, how do you think these verses can be fulfilled ?

1 JOHN 5 answers:
1) A) Spirit = Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
B) Water = Baptism of water.
C) Blood = Baptism into the body of Christ (1 Cor 12:13), which happens when we are saved.
2) Not impossible, but very difficult! Those verses can be fulfilled through the LDC experiencing the Day of Atonement and entering the presence of God so they don’t want to sin. But I believe at any time, it’s possible for them to act in the flesh and commit sin! But I also believe if they repent, they’ll be forgiven and can walk in the Spirit again!

Devotion 2 of 2: Prov 29

Several verses about kings that apply to world leaders today spoke to me. Here is 1 of them with its application:
v.12 “If a ruler pays attention to lies, all his servants become wicked.” A former leader of a free nation constantly spread lies that an election was stolen from him. Over 1000 of his followers have been found guilty of crimes related to the trying to change the election. The worst was sentenced to 22 years in jail last week! More convictions, some of them for top aides, will continue in the next 1-2 years.
Let’s pray that leaders will turn to God and govern their countries with justice!
