Devotion 2 of 2: 2 Chron 16

We can learn how we should react to correction from this chapter. King Baasha of Israel went against Judah and started building a town to stop his people from moving to Judah (v.1). King Asa of Judah felt threatened, so he hired Syria to attack Israel so that they would stop building the town (v.2-4). This plan worked, and Israel withdrew (v.5-6), but because Asa relied on Syria, and not God, Hanani the seer rebuked him and warned him of judgment to come (v.7-9). Asa should have repented and asked God for forgiveness. If he had done so, God would have lessened the judgment. But instead, Asa got angry, imprisoned Hanani and inflicted cruelties upon some of the people (v.10)! Because of this, he was afflicted with a severe foot disease from which he suffered until his death, 2 years later (v.11-14). Let’s ask God to help us to humbly accept corrections so we can grow spiritually mature.
