Devotion 1 of 2: 1 Chron 14
Once David knew he was going to be king, he took more wives and fathered more children. It seems that having many wives and children was symbolic of authority and power, so that’s why many kings did that. But in both David and Solomon’s case, this also led to their downfall, as David thought he could have any woman he wanted, and so he had relations with Bathsheba, who was already married! David ended up not only with committing adultery, but with committing murder as well (2 Sam 11)! And Solomon fell into idolatry because of his many foreign wives who brought their idols into Israel (1 Kings 11)!
