Gedaliah couldn’t discern the evil in Ishmael despite Johanan’s warning (40:13-14), and he lost his life as a result (v.1-2)! The LDC needs to grow and mature so we can discern what is good and bad as Heb 5:14 says: “But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.”

Devotion 2 of 2: Rom 13
In v.1-7, God teaches for us to submit to governments. This is true 90% of the time, but sometimes the government will do something wrong or even evil. I think we are released from this command at those times. In Myanmar now, the military overturned the democratically elected government and has killed thousands to keep their power. So it’s all right to not recognize them as a legal government and not to obey them.
