Devotion 1 of 2: 1 Sam 27

1) In order to make Saul give up searching for him (v.4).
2) He killed every person in the village so that no one could report on what he was doing (v.11)!
3) He reported that he had raided Israeli villages so that Achish would continue to allow him to live there.
4) It is a difficult question because of the difference in time and values between David's day and today, but I don’t agree with David because he lied and deceived Achish and because he killed so many people to cover up his lies. It’s a precursor of his killing Uriah to cover up his adultery with Bathsheba!

Devotion 2 of 2: 1 Sam 28

1) He wanted to know what he should do against the Philistines (v.5, 15). He had tried to inquire of God by other means, but God didn’t answer (v.6).
2) Samuel appeared and told Saul that Israel would be defeated and Saul and his sons would be killed (v.19).
3) I think that most of them are hoaxes, but there are a few who can genuinely communicate with the dead, but I believe they are being used by evil spirits so we should not inquire of them
