Devotion 1 of 2: Job 1
The purpose for all the calamities that happened to Job in chapter 1 was to test him to see if he would curse God or not, as Satan claimed he would in v.9-11, if God’s hedge of protection around him was taken away. But God’s greater purpose in allowing all the calamities upon Job was to form and perfect his character even further.

Devotion 2 of 2: Matt 1
1) I think when Mary told Joseph she had conceived a child, he reacted with disbelief, shock, possibly anger, and also worry for Mary’s life. 2) At first, he thought of putting her away secretly (v.19), which means, I think, he thought of ending their engagement and protecting her by sending her somewhere where no one knew her. 3) In the end, he married Mary (v.24)! 4) He changed his mind because an angel appeared to him and backed up Mary’s story of her conceiving by the Holy Spirit (v.20).
