Devotion 1 of 2: Eccl 2
Solomon tried every pleasure and fleshly gratification while also being guided by wisdom in order to find the good in life (v.1-3). So, he made houses and vineyards and acquired an abundance of livestock and wealth (v.4-8)!
In a sense, Solomon did what many national leaders, especially dictators, do throughout history—live for wealth, power and pleasure! But Solomon concluded that all was vanity (v.11) because all die and are forgotten (v.16)! This realization caused Solomon to hate life and work (v.17-18)! Let’s realize that God is the source of joy and meaning in life!
Devotion 2 of 2: John 2
In v.1-11, we read about Jesus turning the water into wine at the wedding in Cana. One lesson we can learn is that Jesus took a common substance, water, which was of no use at the wedding, into what was needed—wine! In the same way, Jesus can take our life, which may be broken and useless, and make it valuable for His purpose!
Another lesson is that the last wine was better than the early one (v.9-10). This is a picture of how the glory of the latter temple (LDC) will be greater than the former (Hag 2:9)! Let’s believe the LDR’s glory will be great!
