Devotion 1 of 2: Lev 1
This chapter speaks about the burnt offering, the 1st of 5 offerings, described in chapters 1-5, that Israel gave to the Lord. One lesson we can learn from the burnt offering is that it was an animal sacrifice that was totally burned (v.9), meaning it was given completely to God. No meat was taken from it and given to the priests.
The spiritual application is that God wants our total surrender. This is expressed in Rom 12:1-2, “…present your bodies a living sacrifice…be transformed by renewing your minds...prove what is that…perfect will of God.”

Devotion 2 of 2: Acts 1
This chapter describes Jesus’ ascension to heaven and the disciples choosing Matthias to replace Judas.
V.6 reveals that the disciples still had a limited spiritual understanding of God’s plan for their age. They still thought Jesus would restore Israel’s kingdom. But the exact opposite happened—Israel was destroyed in 70AD!
Spiritual application: Do we understand God’s plan for our day? A pastor friend of mine wrote recently that Donald Trump has formed the most Christian cabinet in history! Many American Christians believe that. But is it so?
