Devotion 1 of 2: Hab 1
In this chapter the prophet Habakkuk was confused about violence and injustice, so he asks God 2 questions. Q1: Why does God allow wickedness to go on in Judah, while justice is never done (v.1-4)? God’s answer was He will use the Chaldeans (Babylonians) to punish Judah (v.5-11).
Habakkuk’s 2nd question was: How can God use a wicked nation to punish Judah (v.13-17)? God replied to Q2 in chapter 2, so tomorrow we’ll look at it.
Endtime application: We will face a similar situation when AC persecutes Christians. He will destroy many church buildings and arrest and kill numbers of believers. We will think, “Why is God allowing this?” And God’s answer will be: “To cleanse the church and make it hot or cold, not lukewarm!” (Rev 3:15-19). Let’s be hot for JC!
Devotion 2 of 2: 2 Tim 1
Bible scholars say that this epistle was Paul’s last. He was in chains in Rome (v.16-17) but still ministered through writing until he was martyred. Early church tradition says Paul was beheaded by Nero around 66 AD.
Paul knew his death was approaching (4:6-8), but he approached it with courage and wrote to Timothy in 1:7, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” Because the LDC will face martyrdom, too, we want to learn from Paul and declare we don’t have fear but power, love and a sound mind!
