Devotion 1 of 2: Amos 8

God’s judgment against Israel is symbolized by a basket of summer fruit (v.1-2). Why? Because it represented the agriculture, trade and economy of Israel, which took advantage of the poor (v.4), traded on the Sabbath, and committed fraud and deceit (v.5-6). As a result, God said they would be judged with wailing and death (v.3).
The U.S. government has also been committing fraud in trade, by ignoring trade agreements and demanding high tariffs from every country. They have also taken advantage of poor Hispanics, by arresting and deporting many to other countries without a trial, despite most not breaking any laws and many being U.S. citizens.
The U.S. has also committed deceit by suppressing the files of Jeffrey Eptein, a pedophile who ran a sex-trafficking ring of 100’s of women, some as young as 14, to protect Epstein’s rich clients. By this, they have ignored the victims of these horrendous crimes. But now, finally the files are being opened! Let’s pray for justice.

Devotion 2 of 2: Heb 1

I believe the writer of this book was Paul because of the deep revelations he had concerning Jesus, which other writers in the Bible did not have. For example, in v.2-3, he describes Jesus this way: He is the appointed heir of all things, He made the worlds, and He is the brightness of the Father’s glory and express image of His person!
He continues in v.3-4, He upholds all things by the word of His power, He purged our sins, then sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, He became so much better than the angels as He has a more excellent name than they.
How did Paul know these things about Jesus? I believe he receive much of this revelation when he died, went to heaven and heard things that he wasn’t permitted to speak about for a long time (2 Cor 12:2-4)! Let’s get to know Jesus more and more, too!
