Devotion 1 of 2: Song 3

In this chapter we can see a contrast between the country shepherd whom the Shulamite loved (v.1-5) and Solomon with his 60 valiant soldiers, couch, palanquin and crown (v.6-11).
The Shulamite’s relationship with the shepherd is intimate and full of love. When he disappears, she seeks him diligently until she finds him. Then she brings him to the bed chamber of her mother’s house, where they presumably had an intimate moment.
By contrast, the Shulamite doesn’t seem to have as personal a relationship with Solomon, as she describes him surrounded by 60 valiant soldiers. She also describes his palanquin (carriage?), carrying him to his wedding. But she didn’t say OUR wedding, so the wedding may have been to one of his 60 queens (6:8).
Let’s honor Jesus as the King of Kings, but more than that, let’s love Him as our Bridegroom!

Devotion 2 of 2: 1 Tim 2

V.1-2 say, “…I exhort…that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.”
This verse shows one of the most important purposes of government leaders—to produce an environment so its people can live a quiet and peaceable life! One common feature of the happiest countries in the world is that they are democracies.
Here are the top 10 happiest countries: Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, Israel, Netherlands, Norway, Luxembourg, Australia, Switzerland. 8 of them are in Europe and the top 4 are Nordic countries!
Authoritarian rule often produces suppression of dissent, dissatisfaction, anger, deceit, chaos, and rebellion. But today authoritarianism is increasing! Let’s pray that good, solid democracies will spread to more countries!
