Devotion 1 of 2: Eccl 8
Solomon said in v.15: “So I commended enjoyment, because a man has nothing better under the sun than to eat, drink, and be merry...” This was how Solomon lived, by just having fun! Even today, many people live that way.
Why did Solomon live like that? The answer is in v.14. I paraphrase: “Life is full of contradictions! To good people, bad things happen, and to bad people, good things happen! This makes life so meaningless!”
Solomon felt life shouldn’t be like that! That’s not how things were supposed to happen! That’s why he felt life had no meaning, so he gave up trying to live a good life, and just lived to satisfy his desires and have fun!
Knowing there is a God who will one day judge every person with justice makes us realize that life is not meaningless. One day evil will be punished and goodness will be rewarded! Believing in this wonderful, just God motivates us every day to want to be a better person.
Devotion 2 of 2: 2 Cor 8
“…according to their ability, yes, and beyond their ability, they were freely willing… (to give)” (v.3). Chapters 8 and 9 are about giving. I’m amazed at God’s timing for our Bible reading plan!
I normally would not write about this, but because we read of 2 Cor 8 and 9 about giving on the exact same day as when I sold some of my crypto coins and was preparing to give it to God’s work, I felt the Lord wanted me to share this testimony of giving.
I sold my Chofu land about 4 years ago. But I didn’t give the tithe right away. I wanted to invest the money, increase it and then give the tithe, with the increase. I don’t recommend everyone to do this because an investment can lose value. But I felt a strong urge (from God?) to do it. So, I did. I will continue this testimony tomorrow.
