Devotion 1 of 2: Prov 27
V.2 says, “Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.” Proud people praise themselves. AC will be proud. Dan 11:36-37 prophesy that AC, as the king in these verses, “…will magnify himself above every god,” and “…shall exalt himself above them all.”
We need to pray for national leaders to not get proud and boast but to be humble so they will not be deceived and join AC’s coalition. Recently, a leader claimed he should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Many people were stunned by his audacity. His bold words were the exact opposite of v.2.
Frighteningly, over the past few months, this leader’s social media account posted images of him as a king and then as a pope! It was just after Pope Francis died, upsetting many Catholics who were in mourning.
Let’s pray for discernment so we will not be deceived by proud leaders or by AC himself!
Devotion 2 of 2: 1 John 3
When we read the letters of John, we must confront the problem of whether Christians can sin or not. V.9 is the core verse of this issue: “Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.”
All true Christians have been born of God. But, if we’re honest, we all must confess that we sometimes sin. So, how should we understand and interpret this verse? To understand this verse correctly, I believe we must divide ourselves into the new man and the old man, or our spirit and our flesh.
I believe what has been born of God is our new man, or our spirit, where Christ’s seed has been planted. This is the part in us that cannot sin. But we still live in this world, so we still have our old man or flesh. That is the part of us that sins. So, our goal should be to live more in the spirit and less in the flesh every day!
