Devotion 1 of 1: 2 Kings 25

This chapter depicts Jerusalem’s siege, the famine it caused, its final fall, and the capture and torture of King Zedekiah (v.1-7). Also described is the deportation of the Jews as captives to Babylon, leaving behind only the poor as vinedressers and farmers (v.11-12).
Furthermore, the furnishings of the temple were also removed and transported to Babylon. Much of these were made of an abundance of bronze, with items of gold and silver also found in good numbers (v.13-17). The most valuable furnishings were probably taken to Babylon and melted for the gold and were lost forever.
Endtime application: The defeated kingdoms of northern Israel and southern Judah are a picture of the church that is lukewarm and compromised in the endtime. The loss of the furnishings of the temple symbolizes that church losing all of God’s presence and blessings.
