Devotion 1 of 2: 2 Kings 13
During this time, northern Israel was being harassed by Syria (v.3). In the meantime, Elisha was at the end of his ministry and about to die (v.14). King Joash of Israel visited Elisha, and the prophet told the king to shoot an arrow, and strike the ground with it as if striking Syria until he destroyed Syria (v.15-17).
The king shot and struck the ground with arrows 3x and stopped. Elisha got angry and said he should have struck 5 or 6x. Then he would’ve destroyed Syria. But the king will only strike Syria 3x! After this episode, Elisha died (v.20), and the next king, Jehoash, fulfilled Elisha’s prophecy by defeating Syria 3x (v.25).
Endtime application: Like Israel and Syria, we will be in a battle with AC. He will attack us many times, and we must diligently resist his attacks and defeat him, not only 3x but AMAP! Remember Moses defeated Pharaoh 10x before the Jews were freed! Let’s strike AC at least 10x!
Devotion 2 of 2: 2 Kings 14
In this chapter we see the reign of Amaziah, King of Judah (v.1). Apparently, he was full of pride and arrogance, so he challenged King Jehoash of Israel to war for no apparent cause (v.8)! At first, Jehoash resisted, but Amaziah would not be deterred, so they fought, and Judah was wiped out (v.9-12)!
Not only was Judah defeated, Israel invaded the temple and took all its gold and silver, along with hostages, back to Samaria (v.13-14)! The people were so embittered against the king; they formed a conspiracy and killed him (v.19)!
Endtime application: The LDC will be given authority to rule and judge in the endtime (Rev 11:5-6). We must never get arrogant or proud as it will lead to our downfall as it did Amaziah. Let’s remember everything we have is from Jesus, not from ourselves!
