Devotion 1 of 2: Jer 40
This chapter describes what happened to the Jews who were not taken captive to Babylon but were left in Judah. Babylon made a man named Gedaliah governor over Judah (v.5). Jeremiah was given freedom to choose to move to Babylon, where he would be looked after, or remain in Judah (v.4). He chose to live in Judah (v.6).
When Jews who had escaped to other countries heard that Gedaliah was the governor, they returned to join with him. They began to work the land and gathered harvest in abundance (v.7-8, 11-12).
At that time, Gedaliah was warned that a man named Ishmael was sent to murder him, but he didn’t believe it (v.13-16). This poor discernment was fatal as Ishmael did kill him in 41:2. Gedaliah was an example of a good Christian. He shows us that poor discernment can be disastrous. Don’t forget Jesus’ warning: Don’t be deceived!

Devotion 2 of 2: Rom 12
V.1 and 2 are powerful verses that will guide us on how to live victorious lives! “Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by renewing your mind, that you may prove what is the good, acceptable and perfect will of God.”
A young man, who was involved in drugs, found Christ while in a drug rehabilitation program. He began to study the Bible and was transformed by the renewing of his mind. He became a pastor and started a church which has grown into a 6,000-member megachurch in Seattle called Christian Faith Center.
Pastor Casey Treat has led thousands of people out of weak, defeated lives into strong, victorious living through teaching them how to transform themselves by renewing their mind! Let’s also renew our minds through the Word of God!
