Devotion 1 of 2: Ps 123

V.4 says, “Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorn of those who are at ease, with the contempt of the proud.” The psalmist was asking God to protect him from those who looked down on him with hate. Jesus did prophesy in Matt 24:9 about the endtime that “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake.” So what v.4 is saying will certainly come true in the last days.
But how will it happen? We don’t know all the details, but AC will rule the world like a dictator. What many dictators do is pick out certain groups and call them “the enemy within,” “scum,” “vermin,” “animals,” “sub-human,” “criminals,” “murderers,” “drug addicts,” “rapists,” “poisoning the blood of our country,” etc.
They need to stir up anger and hate against political enemies or other groups of people to keep their followers emotionally stirred up so they will be easily moved to act with violence against these “enemies.” Hitler used this tactic in uniting Germans to reject and eventually kill 6M Jews! They also discriminated and killed Gypsies, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Gay men, Communists, etc.
AC will probably force everyone to worship his image and take his mark (Rev 13:14-17), and when Christians resist, he will accuse them of being rebellious, or enemies of the state, or trouble-makers. Then it will be easy to stir up mobs to burn down church buildings and report the Christians in their town to be arrested and imprisoned. Christians may be made examples of by public trials and public jeering.
But God will also answer their prayers and many, many times He will rescue them from prison and executions, like He did for Peter in Acts 12:5-11, and Paul and Silas in Acts 16:25-34!
Let us not be defeated by the hate and mocking from AC or his followers, but call upon the Lord to deliver us from AC’s persecutions and use us to manifest His glory!

Devotion 2 of 2: Mark 4

WED, 1/22B (3/4)
MARK 4: Free sharing!
In v.1-34, Jesus taught 4 parables to the people. But the disciples didn’t understand even the first parable, so they asked Him about it in v.10. Then in v.11-12, Jesus explains why He spoke in parables: ‘And He said to them, “To you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to those who are outside, all things come in parables, so that‘Seeing they may see and not perceive, and hearing they may hear and not understand; lest they should turn, and their sins be forgiven them.’ ” ’
What Jesus said here actually applies to the whole Bible, because the Bible is a book full of parables! Other expressions of parable would be type, shadow, allegory, picture, symbol, etc. Basically, all the stories in Scripture are parables, whether in the OT or the NT.
So why did God write the Bible with so many parables? As Jesus said, so that those on the outside (those who don’t believe) will see and hear but not understand. If their hearts are not right, it would be like throwing precious pearls to swine (Matt 7:6). They would not value or honor it, but instead misuse it or trample on it!
But for those whose hearts are pure, if we go to Jesus and seek with a humble heart, He will reveal the meaning of the parables to us.
Actually, the truth of restoration is largely hidden in the Bible in parables. So let us seek the Lord diligently to reveal this important truth to us, and then let’s study with hungry and open hearts! If we do, He will surely speak to us!
