Devotion 1 of 2: 1 Sam 1

This chapter gives the background of the birth of Samuel. He came from a consecrated woman of God, Hannah. She was one of the 7 barren women of the Bible who turned their curse into a blessing by breaking the curse through various ways.
The way Hannah was able to break through her barrenness was by vowing, if God gave her a child, to give him back to God all the days of his life (v.11). This vow reached God and He responded by giving her a boy, whom she named Samuel. He became one of the greatest leaders of the OT by becoming prophet, priest and king (judge).
Application: Like Hannah, the church in Japan is barren, or almost barren, with less than 1% of the Japanese people saved. And although there is no outward persecution in Japan because freedom of religion is guaranteed in the constitution, like Hannah, who was persecuted by Peninnah, the church is continually being attacked by Satan to keep it barren.
So, like Hannah, let’s vow to give ourselves and the church in Japan completely to God! Let’s welcome Jesus as our King and Head! Let’s live in 2025 dedicated wholly to glorifying Jesus and bringing revival to this land!

1サム1: 自由な分かち合い！
この章では、サムエル誕生の背景が説明されています。サムエルは、神に奉献された女性、ハンナから生まれました。ハンナは、聖書に登場する不妊の7人の女性の1人で、その7人はさまざまな方法で呪いを解いて、祝福に変えました。
ハンナが不妊を克服できたのは、もし神が子供を授かったら、一生神にささげると誓ったからです (11節)。この誓いは神に届き、神はそれに応えて男の子を授け、ハンナはサムエルと名付けました。サムエルは預言者、祭司、王 (裁き司) となり、旧約聖書の最も偉大な指導者の1人となりました。
応用: ハンナのように、日本の教会は不妊、またはほぼ不妊で、日本人の1%未満しか救われていません。そして、日本では憲法で信教の自由が保障されているため、外部からの迫害はないものの、ペニンナから迫害を受けたハンナのように、教会は不毛な状態に保とうとサタンの攻撃を受け続けています。
ですから、ハンナのように、私たち自身と日本の教会を完全に神に捧げることを誓いましょう。イエスを私たちの王であり頭として迎え入れましょう。2025年は、イエスを讃え、この地にリバイバルをもたらすことに全力を尽くして生きましょう。

Devotion 2 of 2: 1 Sam 2

V.12 says, “Now the sons of Eli were corrupt; they did not know the Lord.” What was their corruption? One was to forcefully take meat brought as sacrifices before being burned. This caused the people to abhor giving offerings to God (v.13-17)! Another was to commit adultery with women at the entrance to the tabernacle (v.22)! These are 2 common traits of corruption: Taking more than they should (of money) and committing immorality.
Application: Corruption in leadership is a problem often found today in the world and in churches. A world-famous church rapidly expanded and built branch churches in 27 major cities around the world. However, their churches had a culture of corruption that didn’t report sexual abuses in their leaders right away. Eventually, the New York City Church pastor was exposed for having an extra marital affair and was fired. Since then, several scandals have caused more pastors to be dismissed.
In the U.S., the man nominated to be the new Secretary of Defense has been accused of sexual assault, denigrating women, many promiscuous affairs, gross mismanagement of 2 organizations and their finances, repeated drunken behavior, etc. Can this kind of man manage a department that demands strong discipline, has 2.3M employees, is entrusted with an $800B budget and that leads the U.S. during wartime? No doubt, his appointment would open the door to unbelievable corruption in the U.S. military!
In Japan, the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has committed financial fraud for many years by not disclosing their income and expenditures from fundraising campaigns. The scandal has continued for several years, and a survey showed 79% of the people disapproved the party’s handling of the problem. If this corruption is not stamped out, it will only grow bigger.
In this age of deceit and corruption, let’s aim to be the Samuels that God can use to restore His church to full glory and power to use in the LDR!

12節には、「エリの息子たちは、よこしまな(腐敗した、堕落した)者で、主を知らず･･･」とあります。彼らの腐敗とは何だったのでしょうか。一つは、いけにえとして捧げられた肉を焼かれる前に力ずくで奪ったことです。このように、彼らは主へのささげ物を侮ったのです (13-17 節)。もう一つは、会見の天幕の入り口で女たちと寝ているということでした (22 節)。これらは腐敗の 2 つの一般的な特徴です。(金銭を) 受けるべき量以上に奪うことと、不道徳を犯すことです。
応用: 指導者の腐敗は、今日の世界や教会でよく見られる問題です。世界的に有名なある教会は急速に拡大し、世界中の 27 の主要都市に支部教会を建てました。しかし、その教会には指導者の性的な罪をすぐに報告しないという腐敗の文化がありました。やがて、ニューヨーク市の教会の牧師は不倫が暴露され、解雇されました。それ以来、いくつかのスキャンダルにより、さらに多くの牧師が解雇されています。
米国では、新国防長官に指名された男が、性的暴行、女性蔑視、幾度もの不倫、2つの組織とその財政の重大な管理不行き届き、度重なる酔っぱらい行為などで告発されています。このような男が、厳しい規律を要求し、230万人の従業員を抱え、125.8兆円の予算を任され、戦時中に米国を率いる部署を管理できるでしょうか？間違いなく、彼の任命は、米軍における信じられないほどの腐敗への扉を開くことになるでしょう！
日本では、自民党（LDP）が長年にわたり、資金調達キャンペーンの収入と支出を開示しないという財政詐欺を犯してきました。このスキャンダルは数年にわたって続いており、調査では国民の79％が党の問題への対応に不満を示しています。この不正をつぶさなければ、それはさらに広がっていくでしょう。
欺瞞と腐敗のこの時代に、終末リバイバルを起こす教会、また栄光と力に満ちた教会を回復するために用いられるサムエルのような信者になることを目指しましょう！
