Devotion 1 of 1: Ps 93
The last part of v.1 is very significant. It says, “Surely the world is established, so that it cannot be moved.” I believe this verse is saying that the earth is set up so life can thrive, and nothing can be moved or changed or life would be destroyed. Let’s look at how the earth is established and find some reasons for such a bold statement.
Earth’s rotation: Just right for life. If slower, days too hot and nights too cold. If faster, winds too extreme.
Distance from the sun: Is just right for maintaining life and water. If distance farther, most water would freeze; if closer, most water would evaporate.
Gravity and atmosphere: If gravity stronger, too much methane and ammonia. If weaker, too little water. Atmosphere keeps planet warm, good for living organisms, and has right balance of oxygen and nitrogen, carbon dioxide and water vapor, for life, photosynthesis and rainfall.
Moon’s mass and distance: Large size and distance keep earth’s orbit, rotation, tilt and climates stable. All essential for life.
Magnetic field: Protects earth from solar radiation that’s harmful to life.
Some scientists believe many examples of a fine-tuned universe are strong evidence of intelligent design in nature, which points to a Creator God! Amen!
JOHN 15: Free sharing!
In v.14-15, Jesus said to His disciples, “You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.”
Jesus points out 2 levels among His followers: servants and friends. Servants don’t know what Jesus is doing, while friends know what He is doing and also do what He commands.
Jesus called His disciples friends (v.15), but at the cross, they actually betrayed, denied and forsook Jesus! Why did they fail? I believe it’s because they left their position as friends and became servants instead! Remember, servants don’t understand what their master is doing! That’s what the disciples were like at Jesus’ arrest!
Peter tried to protect Jesus by cutting off the high priest’s servant’s ear (John 18:10)! But Jesus opposed him and told him to put his sword away. The disciples must have thought, “What? What is Jesus doing? We’re trying to help, but He opposes us!” They didn’t understand and became disillusioned, and that’s why they forsook Him!
In the last days, we’ll face the same situation. Instead of a rapture to protect us from AC, Jesus will allow AC to persecute the church. Many Christians won’t understand what Jesus is doing, will become disillusioned and will fall away (2 Thes 2:2). It is because they are servants and don’t understand Jesus' endtime plan.
So we must grow from servants to become friends of Jesus! We must understand His endtime vision and do what Jesus commands us to help bring about the LDR that will see hundreds of millions of souls saved! Lord, we want to be Your friends! Help us to mature so we can understand what You want to do in the endtime!
