Devotion 1 of 1: Ps 91
This is a famous psalm about God protecting His people in times of trouble, especially during pestilences (v.3, 6) and plagues (v.10). My wife, Yoshiko, is going through a battle with sickness right now, so I am claiming God’s promise to cover her under His wings (v.4) and deliver her from the perilous pestilence (v.3).
What other outstanding promises of God’s protection can we find in this psalm? Let’s take a look.
v.5 We will not be afraid of the terror by night nor of the arrow that flies by day!
v.7 1K may fall at our side and 10K at our right hand, but it shall not come near us!
v.13 We shall trample upon the lion and cobra and serpent!
v.15 We will call on the Lord, and He will answer; He will be with us in trouble and deliver and honor us!
Lord, be with Yoshiko as You have promised and bring her to complete healing! In Jesus’ name!
JOHN 13: Free sharing!
We can see the immaturity of the disciples in this chapter. In v.10-11, Jesus tells them they are not all clean. This meant one of them had not repented and truly believed in Him. Jesus knew who it was, but the disciples had no understanding of what Jesus was talking about.
Then in v.21, He says one of them will betray Him. This perplexed the disciples (v.22), and Peter urges John to ask Jesus who it is (v.24). When Jesus plainly answers John, “It is he to whom I shall give a piece of bread when I have dipped it.” And having dipped the bread, He gave it to Judas Iscariot…” (v.26), the disciples should have known Judas was the betrayer! But they still didn’t understand!
Then when Judas immediately left, they thought it was to buy things they would need for the feast or to give something to the poor (v.28). But the exact opposite was true! Judas was leaving to betray Jesus to the chief priests and earn 30 pieces of silver for himself!
Why couldn’t the disciples realize Judas was the betrayer, even after Jesus gave him the bread? I think it was because they were totally deceived by Judas, by his words and actions. They all believed he was honest and trustworthy, that’s why he was put in charge of the money box (v.29)! So, despite hearing Jesus’ words and seeing Jesus give Judas the bread, they still chose to believe their fake info about Judas more than Jesus’ words and actions!
We will be tested by deception from AC in the endtime. And many Christians will fall (Matt 24:5, 11). They will believe the opposite of what is true! Let’s ask God to help us discern correctly. We cannot do it by our own wisdom; we need to hear His voice.
