Devotion 1 of 1: Ps 87
This is a beautiful psalm about the city of Zion, which symbolizes many things, including: A mount in SE or SW Jerusalem, City of God, City of David, Israel, Jerusalem, God’s people, the Jews’ vision of returning to Israel, the church, the LDC, etc.
V.2 says, “The Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.” If Jacob symbolizes all believers and Zion the overcoming believers, this verse is saying that God loves the ordinary believers but that He loves the overcoming believers even more. The reason would be because the overcomers love God more.
V.5 says, “And of Zion it will be said, ‘This one and that one were born in her.’ “ To be born in Zion means to catch the vision, faith, and passion of what Zion stands for, for example, as concerning the LDC.
Let’s be determined not to settle for just 30-fold or 60-fold level of faith, but the full 100-fold level! Let’s be born in Zion!
JOHN 9: Free sharing!
Jesus heals a blind man in this chapter. He also says a very interesting statement in v.4, “I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work.” What did He mean by the night when no one can work?
One possibility in church history is the Dark Ages. It was a dark time, like the night that Jesus was talking about. It was hard to work and do miracles during that time because truth was scarce and men’s faith was weak. Matt 13:58 says that Jesus did not do many works in His own county because of the people’s unbelief.
Let’s do Jesus’ works when we can!
