Devotion 1 of 1: Judg 1

The book of Judges covers the period between Joshua’s death after conquering Canaan (1375 BC) and Samuel’s birth to establish Israel’s kingdom (1070 BC). During this period Israel was led by 12 judges who were selected by God. They were: Othniel, Ehud, Shamgar, Deborah (the only woman judge), Gideon, Tola, Jair, Jephthah, Ibzan, Elon, Abdon and Samson.
In v.1-2, it says, “…Israel asked the Lord, saying, “Who shall be first to go up for us against the Canaanites to fight against them?” And the Lord said, “Judah shall go up. Indeed I have delivered the land into his hand.” This shows us how praise is such a powerful spiritual weapon in our battles against our enemy, Satan! Let’s never forget to praise God for the victory in every conflict we face, no matter how hard the battle is! Help us to always praise You, O God!

JUDG 2: Free sharing!
In this chapter we see how quickly (it took only 1 generation!) Israel forsook God and worshiped the idols of the heathen nations they fought against!
V.10-12 says, “When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know the Lord nor the work which He had done for Israel. Then the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served the Baals; and they forsook the Lord God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt; and they followed other gods from among the gods of the people who were all around them, and they bowed down to them; and they provoked the Lord to anger.”
The lesson we need to learn is how easy it is to lose faith and separate from God. This is a very important fact for every Christian home to know in raising up our children. Although the parents might have a strong faith, it’s very easy for the next generation to stop going to church! Let’s pray for our children and be a witness of faith, love and joy to them! Happy and loving parents are the best witness of Christ to their children!
