Devotion 1 of 1: Ps 83
This is the last psalm that Asaph wrote. He was a gifted musician, worship leader and prophet in David’s day. This psalm appeals to God for protection from many enemies who sought to cut Israel off as a nation (v.1-4).
Asaph wrote about Israel’s situation in his day, but this psalm also is prophetic of the endtime, when AC will form a confederation of nations to destroy the Jewish people.
Today we can very easily see what can cause nations to want to attack Israel. Most of the world recognized that Israel had a right to defend itself when Hamas massacred 1200 on 10/07/2023 and took over 200 hostages. But when Israel retaliated by killing over 40,000, many of them women and children, and destroyed much of Gaza’s infrastructure, a global condemnation erupted.
Similar conditions will likely drive nations to join AC’s confederacy to invade Israel in the future (v.5-8). The Jews will be overwhelmed by the invasion and totter on the brink of destruction. That's when their cries for help (v.13-18) will cause Jesus to return to the Mt. of Olives to save them from their enemies (Zech 14:3-4).
Let’s join with Israel and cry out to God to save the Jewish people and bring them back to relationship with God!
1 JN 3: Free sharing!
V.14 says, “We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death.” I got saved when I attended an evangelistic meeting on the island of Maui in 1964. At the end of the meeting, I prayed to God, surrendered everything to Him and made Jesus my Lord.
I didn’t notice any difference that night, but the next morning, when I awoke, I felt like the world had changed. When I looked at people, I felt a love that I had never felt before, and I knew the purpose of my life was to serve God and to help people to know God. My life changed because I had passed from death to life!
I soon dedicated my life to becoming a pastor, left the university after my 2nd year, and went to Texas to study the Bible. While there, I went on a mission trip to Mexico, where I received a calling to the mission field. After finishing my Bible training in Texas, I returned to Hawaii, but soon departed for Japan to begin my life work of helping people to know God.
Let’s let God’s love shine through us to those around us. It’s a clear sign that we’ve passed from death to life.
