Devotion 1 of 2: 1 Cor 12

This chapter gives the most detailed description of the 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit in the Bible (v.8-10). An evangelist called these gifts the power tools of God for building the church. We can use hand tools like saws for cutting wood to build a house, but using a power saw is much faster!
In the same way, we can use non-supernatural ways to build the church, but along with that, if we also use the power gifts of the Spirit, more people would get saved more quickly and we can build the church of Christ more effectively. Let’s continuously seek God for the gifts of the Holy Spirit to be active in our life and ministry!

Devotion 2 of 2: Ps 56

This is another psalm of David asking God to protect him from his enemies (v.1-2). One phrase that is repeated is “I will trust in You (God)” (v.3b), or “In God I have put my trust” (v.4, 11). These words are printed as: “In God We Trust,” on coins made in the U.S.
Some people who don’t believe in God want these words to be deleted, but so far their efforts have failed. At first, U.S. coins weren’t made with that phrase to avoid the government promoting a religion. But during the Civil War, in 1864, many leaders felt one of the causes of the tragic war was that the U.S. had forgotten God, so they authorized “In God We Trust” to be printed on coins. God answered their desires, and the North defeated the South, ending slavery in the U.S.
When a nation abandons God and his truths, they will indeed reap tribulations and disasters. Let’s keep the motto: In God We Trust, on our coins, but even more so, in our hearts!
