Devotion 1 of 2: Ps 52
David wrote this psalm as a reaction to Doeg telling King Saul that David had gone to the house of Abimelech, the priest (1 Sam 21-22). The awful consequence of Doeg’s words resulted in 85 priests and their wives, children and infants being killed by Doeg!
The lesson we can learn from Doeg is how destructive deceitful words can be! David describes some of the consequences of Doeg’s tongue: it boasts in evil (v.1), devises destruction, cuts like a razor, works deceitfully (v.2), loves evil, lies (v.3), and devours people (v.4).
Let’s seek God to remove deceit from our hearts and lips so that we speak words of encouragement and love, to build up the people around us, not destroy them.

Devotion 2 of 2: 1 Cor 8
In this chapter Paul says that idols are not gods, so eating things offered to idols is not a problem (v.4). But if some people think it’s wrong and stumble over our liberty to eat, then Paul says we should not eat because we must also follow the command to love our neighbor and do no harm to them (v.13).
