Devotion 1 of 2: Deut 23

I love v.3-5! It refers to when King Balak of Moab hired the prophet Balaam to curse Israel (v.4, Num 22:6). But although Balaam tried to curse Israel 4x (Num 23:7-10, 18-24; 24:3-9, 15-19), each time God turned the curse into a blessing (Num 23:8-10, 19-24; 24:5-9, 17-19)!
We have an enemy who hates us and wants to curse and destroy us, too! His name is Satan. He uses Balaam, which are trials, negative happenings, accidents, sicknesses, etc., to try to discourage and destroy us! But, as with Israel, our God turns the curses of the enemy into blessings!
Let’s believe our God can change every bad thing that happens to us into something good, that will benefit us, as Rom 8:28 says, “All things work together for good to those who love God!” Amen!

Devotion 2 of 2: Rom 7

This chapter is one of the most important in the Bible concerning Christian living. It deals with sin after we get saved and want to obey God, but because of the weakness of our flesh, we end up sinning (v.21-24). We can get condemned and believe we are unworthy of Jesus’ love. How can we stop sinning and live a pure, sanctified life for the glory of God?
I believe this chapter is teaching us that we will never stop sinning as long as we are in the flesh because the law of sin is in us and will control us from time to time (v.17-20)! So how can we be delivered from condemnation? It is by not being controlled by the law! That means to not look at our failures, sins and the times we broke the law! That will only bring us into wretchedness and death (v.23-24)!
The answer is to look to Jesus, who forgave us for all of our sins, past, present and future, and believe in and confess the righteousness and victory over sin that he provided for us! As soon as we confess God’s grace and mercy instead of our failure and sin, we have victory over Satan’s accusations and can live in the victory that Jesus has provided for us! And we do this over and over, every day, every time we sin, so that we don’t dwell in our failures but in Jesus’ forgiveness and victory! Amen!
Thank you, Jesus, for your great salvation and victory over sin that you provided through the cross!
