Devotion 1 of 2: Ex 19
In this chapter Israel entered the Desert of Sinai and camped before Mt. Sinai. In v.6, God told Israel that his will for them was that they would be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. He was planning to do this by making priests from all the firstborn of every family from every tribe. Sadly, Israel committed a great sin by worshiping the golden calf while waiting for Moses to come down from the mountain. Because of this sin, God changed his plan and appointed only the tribe of Levi to become priests. The church has been given the same chance as Israel of old to become a kingdom of priests (1 Pet 2:9). Let’s fulfill this precious calling and bring God’s plan to fruition!

Devotion 2 of 2: Ex 20
(2/2)
In v.25, God said, “If you make an altar of stones for me, do not build it with dressed stones, for you will defile it if you use a tool on it.” How does this apply to us? The altar was the place of sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins. In the NT, this speaks of the cross of Calvary. So God doesn’t want us to cut, chisel or change the message of the cross. He wants us to believe and preach it as it happened in the Bible!
Sadly, what many heresies do is change the meaning of the cross! For example, the Unification Church teaches that the cross was a failure! They interpret Jesus’ words, “My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?” as a sign that the Father rejected Jesus at the cross! Therefore, another Christ, Sun Myung Moon, needed to come to fulfill the salvation of mankind through another way!
But the Unification Church is not giving salvation to mankind, but has instead put its members’ families through great duress by collecting large donations from them to enrich itself! The Japan government has finally recognized this and has decided to remove the group’s tax free status as a religious organization. Let’s continue to preach the cross, as recorded in the Scriptures, as the only way to salvation!
