Devotion 1 of 2: Job 15
Eliphaz, Job’s 1st friend, talks to Job for the 2nd time in this chapter. He completely rejects Job’s words (v.3-6) and rebukes him for his attitude (v.7-9)! We should not follow his example of trying to help Job by harshly criticizing him! Let’s counsel in love, not forgetting it’s not us who can help people with needs, but Jesus alone!

Devotion 2 of 2: Matt 15
(2/2)
1) It was teachings by Jewish scholars that were not part of the original Scriptures or commandments of God, but the scholars thought that’s what God wanted. One example was one should wash his hands before eating (v.2).
2) Jesus meant the original Scriptures and especially the 10 Commandments. One example was the 5th commandment: “Honor your father and mother.” (v.4)
3) Jesus said the scribes and Pharisees made a tradition of taking the money they should have sent to their parents to support them, and giving it to the temple instead (v.3-5). By doing that, they were actually giving the money to themselves because they got their salary from the temple! Then they said if they did that, they didn’t need to honor their parents with the money (v.6)! But Jesus said by doing that, they were elevating their traditions above God’s commandment of honoring their parents (v.6)!
