Devotion 1 of 1: Gen 47
1) 1st, Joseph sold the grain for the people’s money. 2nd, he traded the grain for the people’s livestock. 3rd, he traded grain for the people’s land. 4th, he gave the people seed, made them work the land and gave them 4/5 of the harvest and kept 1/5 for Pharaoh (v.13-26).
2) Because through Joseph’s ruling and managing, Pharaoh came to own all the money, livestock and land of Egypt and the people all became his servants!
GEN 48 sharing:
Almost every firstborn in the Bible lost their firstborn rights to their younger sibling! In v.8-20, that happened to Joseph’s 2 sons, Manasseh and Ephraim! Jacob put his right hand on Ephraim, the 2nd born, and his left hand on Manasseh, the 1st born! And he had to cross his arms to do that!
Because Israel is the firstborn, and the Gentile church is the second born, the lesson here is that through the cross we were given the firstborn blessing. Israel rejected Jesus at the cross, but Gentiles who believe in Jesus have been forgiven and made children of God through the cross!
