Devotion 1 of 2: Ex 13
God required the Jews to consecrate their firstborn males to Him because He wanted them to never forget that He took the lives of the firstborn boys of Egypt in order to deliver them our of Egypt (v.14-16). I think God wanted to make the firstborn sons the priests of Israel, so that all the tribes would have priests, but when they worshiped the golden calf at Mt. Sinai, God changed that plan and made the tribe of Levi the priestly tribe because they didn’t worship the calf, and they executed judgment on those who did (Ex 32:26-28).

Devotion 2 of 2: Ex 14
Israel’s crossing the Red Sea was a picture of water baptism because it separated Israel from Egypt, just as water baptism is a symbol of our separating from the world and joining the church. Also, it was where Pharaoh and his army drowned (v.28), symbolizing that if we believe in Jesus and are baptized in water, Satan’s power over us is broken, and now we have authority over him (Luke 10:19)!
