Devotion 1 of 2: 1 Kings 13
1) I think it was so that he wouldn’t be tempted by the praises of people who saw his miracles.
2) The man of God was pure and wanted to be obedient to God, and he was vigilant against temptation from an evil king (Jeroboam), but was deceived by a prophet whom he thought was good. So we must be vigilant even toward the people who are supposed to be trustworthy if they offer advice contrary to what God says.

Devotion 2 of 2: 1 Kings 14
1) Jeroboam was unfaithful to God, leading Israel to idolatry (v.9, 15-16). Eventually Jeroboam’s sins would spread so much in Israel that God would give the northern kingdom up (to Assyria).
2) Rehoboam was also a spiritual failure as Judah also fell into idolatry and even into male cult prostitution (v.22-24)!
