Devotion 1 of 2: 1 Kings 1
1) Adonijah tried to make himself king, but Solomon was the one who was promised to be king. We, also, have been promised to be made kings and priests of God (Rev 5:10)!
2) I think it was to show God’s mercy and forgiveness.
3) Judah had a relationship with Tamar, his daughter-in-law, that resulted in Perez being born (Gen 38:29). Both Judah and Perez were included in Jesus’ genealogy (Matt 1:3).

Devotion 2 of 2: 1 Kings 2
In v.1-4, David gives Solomon instructions about obeying God and the law so that God’s blessings will be on his and his descendants’ reign. Solomon followed David’s advice for a season but eventually drifted away by having 1000 women and adopting their gods & idols, causing a disastrous split in the kingdom and huge consequences for millions of Jews (1 Ki 11:1-11)! Why did Solomon fail? Perhaps because David’s actions spoke louder than his words! David had committed adultery with Solomon’s mother before eventually marrying her and having Solomon legitimately. Then David took many more women as wives and had many children (1 Chron 3:1-9; 2 Sam 3:2-5)! So Solomon was copying what David had done! Our actions often speak louder than our words!
