Here is my Thu, 2/16, devotion questions and answers. 2 Sam 1 question: 1) How are the accounts of Saul’s death in 1 Sam 31 and 2 Sam 1 different?
2) How do you think the 2 accounts can be reconciled?
2 Sam 1 answer: 1) In 1 Sam 31, Saul dies by falling on his own sword. In 2 Sam 1, he tries to kill himself, but doesn’t succeed, so he asks an Amalekite who happened to be passing by to kill him, and he does.
2) Saul almost succeeded in killing himself, as described in 1 Sam 31, but wasn’t able to, so he asked the Amalekite to finish the job, which he did do, as described in 2 Sam 1.
