Devotion 1 of 2: John 11
Jesus said some very seemingly contradictory statements in v.25-26: “The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.” When we realize that man is spirit, soul and body, we can understand what Jesus meant! In other words, if we believe in Jesus, when our body dies, our spirit and soul will still be alive! And if we have eternal life by believing in Jesus, our spirit and soul will never die!

Devotion 2 of 2: Ps 89
In v.1-29, we see God’s covenant with David to establish his throne forever (v.29). But in v.30-51, it says that if David’s descendants sin, God will punish them (v.32). This was fulfilled during David’s evil grandson’s rule when Israel was split in 2. Then the kingdom of Judah further declined under many of her evil kings, all descendants of David, until Babylon destroyed it in 586 BC! After that, for hundreds of years, it seemed like God renounced his covenant with David as v.39 prophesies! But God’s plan, which was beyond man’s understanding, was to send his Son, a descendant of David to set up a spiritual kingdom, the church, that would last forever! So we, the church, are the answer to the psalmist’s prophecy in v.33-37 of David’s kingdom being established forever in line with God’s covenant!
