Devotion 1 of 2: 1 John 4

2 tests to discern if a spirit or person is of God: 1) If it confesses that JC has come in the flesh (v.2). 2) If he hears or listens to the true ministers of God (v.6).
2 tests to discern if a spirit or person is of antichrist or not of God: 1) If it does not confess that JC has come in the flesh (v.3). 2) If he says, “I love God,” and hates his brother (20).

Devotion 2 of 2: Ps 81

In v.4-5, God says he established a law in Joseph as a testimony when he ruled throughout Egypt. What was that law? At Meribah (Num 20:2-13), Israel complained of not having water, so God told Moses to speak to the rock to yield water, but Moses struck the rock. Result: Moses couldn’t enter the Promised Land! So Joseph’s Meribah was being tested by his brothers, Potiphar’s wife and the butler who forgot him! And what happened? “The burden was removed” I interpret as his anger was removed, and “his hands were freed from the basket,” I take to mean he didn’t strike back at them with his hands! Instead, Joseph called to God and was delivered from prison and became ruler of Egypt!
