Devotion 2 of 2: Gen 48
I don’t think Jacob made a mistake when he blessed the two sons of Joseph by placing his right hand on the 2nd born, Ephraim, and his left hand on the 1st born, Manasseh because I believe God showed Jacob that the younger brother, Ephraim, would receive the firstborn blessing. One evidence of Ephraim becoming the firstborn is when the kingdom was split into north (Joseph) and south (Judah), the northern tribes were often called Ephraim because it was the leading tribe of the north. Here is an example in God’s prophecy to Ezekiel that the 2 kingdoms would one day become one: “As for you, son of man, take a stick for yourself and write on it: 'For Judah and for the children of Israel, his companions.' Then take another stick and write on it, 'For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel, his companions.' Then join them one to another for yourself into one stick, and they will become one in your hand” (Ezek. 37:16-17).
