Devotion 1 of 2: Prov 13
Among the many verses in this chapter giving excellent advice on daily righteous living, we find v.24, “He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him promptly.”
Knowing how to discipline one’s children is needful in raising them. The Bible offers some good advice on this. But we must be aware that times change, cultures change, and what is acceptable also changes. Today, if a parent hits his child with a rod, he might be visited by the police! Let’s discipline our children, but in a way that is acceptable by the law!

この章には、日々の正しい歩みのための優れた助言が数多くある。その中で24節には、「むちを控える者はその子を憎む者であり、子を愛する者は熱心にこれを懲らしめる。」（2017新改訳）とある。
子どもを育てるには、どのように懲らしめるかを知ることが大切である。聖書はこのことについて良い助言を与えている。しかし、時代は変わり、文化も変わり、受け入れられることも変わることを理解する必要がある。今日では、親がむちで子どもをたたくなら、警察が来るかもしれない。だから、子どもを懲らしめることは大切だが、法律に従った方法でするようにしよう。
Devotion 2 of 2: 2 Cor 13
In this chapter Paul challenged the Corinthians to examine and test their faith, whether it was real or not in v.5, “Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.”
For the endtime, we will need to examine ourselves also. It’s easy to confess we are Christians now, but how about when AC arises and seeks to execute those who don’t obey him? Let’s test ourselves now to make our faith sure!

この章でパウロは、コリント人たちに、自分たちの信仰が本物かどうかを吟味し、試すように勧める。5節には、「あなたがたは信仰に立っているかどうか、自分自身を吟味しなさい。自分を試しなさい。それとも、イエス・キリストがあなたがたのうちにおられることを、自分で認めないのですか。──あなたがたがそれに不適格であれば別ですが。」（2017新改訳）とある。
終末のためには、私たちも自分を吟味する必要がある。今は自分がクリスチャンであると告白することは簡単である。しかし、反キが現れ、従わない者を処刑するというときはどうだろうか。今のうちに自分を試し、自身の信仰を確かなものにしよう。
