Devotion 1 of 2: Deut 5
In this chapter, Moses retells the story of how he received the 10 Commandments from God at Mt. Horeb (Sinai) (v.1-22). At that time, Israel thought they would die because they saw God’s glory and heard His voice (v.24-25).
The people feared to go before God themselves, so they asked Moses to go, then tell them what God spoke, and they would do it (v.27)! This is one reason why Israel failed. They avoided direct relationship with God and chose to go through Moses instead. We need a direct, personal relationship with God to live right!

Devotion 2 of 2: Deut 6
This chapter reveals the greatest commandment to us, which is: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength” (v.5). Is Israel had kept this command, they would not have fallen into the idolatry of the pagan nations around them when they invaded the Promised Land (v.10-25).
We, also, are faced with temptations every day to run after and idolize a multitude of things in the world. Like Israel, if we faithfully keep this one commandment, we will not fail but, rather, overcome in life!
