Devotion 1 of 2: Num 31
This chapter tells of how Midian (Moab) was utterly destroyed as punishment for causing Israel to worship Baal and commit harlotry, resulting in 24,000 deaths, in chapter 25. Israel killed all the Midian males and kings (v.7-8) and also the prophet Balaam for advising Midian in how to cause Israel to disobey the Lord (v.16).
The rules of war in OT times were different from today, so we cannot condemn Israel’s war ethics. For example, when Moses saw the Midian captives, he ordered all small boys and all women who had known men killed (v.17).

Devotion 2 of 2: Num 32
This chapter talks about the tribes of Reuben, Gad and half of Manasseh (v.33) deciding to settle on the east side of the Jordan instead of Canaan (v.2-5). At first, Moses opposed their idea (v.6-7), but when they said they would fight with the other tribes until they got their land, Moses accepted them (v.20-24).
Endtime application: These 2.5 tribes who lived on the east side of Jordan but who fought with the other tribes in the Promised Land, symbolize Christians who join the LDR, even though they haven’t been filled with the Spirit.
