Devotion 1 of 2: Job 5
Job’s 1st friend, Eliphaz, continues his counseling in this chapter. What he says is generally very good. For example, he says in v.17-18, “Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects; therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty. For He bruises, but He binds up; He wounds, but His hands make whole.”
This is what any Christian would say, today, too! But this shows that the unstable, radical, conspiracy-minded Eliphaz in chapter 4 is also the normal-looking man in chapter 5! Let’s realize that these kinds of people are common today, too!

Devotion 2 of 2: Matt 1
The 1st book of the NT begins with the genealogy of Jesus (v.1-17). It is shockingly honest by revealing several incidents of infidelity, prostitution, and even murder in Jesus’ past history. Muslims cannot understand this because their Quran paints Mohammed as a perfect prophet and the ideal man. It doesn’t reveal any weaknesses in him.
So, why did God allow these “shameful” incidents to be included in the Bible? I think one reason is to show that all humans, even those called to help bring the Messiah into the world commit sin and need a Savior! Let’s thank God for the honesty of the Bible!
