Devotion 1 of 2: 1 Chron 5
This chapter describes the family lines of Reuben (v.1-10), Gad (v.11-17) and the half-tribe of Manasseh (v.23-24). There were the 3 tribes who took the land on the east side of Jordan as their inheritance. They were skilled warriors and valiant in war, so they expanded their territory as they defeated nearby tribes (v.18-22).
But they also were unfaithful to God and played harlot to the pagan gods of their neighbors (v.25). For this reason, God handed them over to Assyria, who took them into captivity (v.26), from which they never returned.
Like the other tribes, these 3 tribes lost everything because they compromised and worshiped idols (v.25-26). They are a type of the believers in the endtime who will worship AC’s image and become part of the falling away.
Devotion 2 of 2: Gal 5
In this chapter, Paul deals with the issue of liberty versus bondage (v.1). He explains that through believing in Christ, He has actually set us free from the law and from having circumcision in order to be saved (v.2-6). But if one tries to be justified by law, he has fallen from grace (v.4).
Praise God that Paul was able to influence Christianity away from legalism and salvation through obeying the law! Because of his revelations and his many epistles (half of the NT books were written by Paul!), Christianity separated from becoming a Judaistic sect to becoming a faith based on grace!
Living under the law is always looking at our sins and feeling condemned about them! But living under grace is always looking at the forgiveness and salvation that Jesus provided on the cross and being thankful for them!
