Devotion 1 of 2: 2 Kings 19

In this chapter we find the result of Assyria’s threats against Jerusalem. Assyria was the world’s most powerful empire at that time. Their army had conquered all the nations they faced. They had conquered northern Israel, and now their army of 185,000 soldiers was right next door to southern Judah!
King Hezekiah of Judah did the only thing he could—he took Assyria’s letter of threats to the Lord (v.14). He prayed earnestly for God to save His people from destruction by King Sennacherib (v.19). The prophet Isaiah gave the Lord’s quick reply: “I will defend this city, to save it for My and David’s sake!” (v.34)
Then, in one night, a single angel went out and killed 185,000 Assyrian soldiers and gave Judah the victory (v.35)! Sennacherib, defeated, returned to Nineveh and was promptly assassinated by his sons (v.36-37)! God will fight for the LDC against AC, too!

Devotion 2 of 2: 2 Kings 20

In this chapter we see Hezekiah’s lax attitude toward his enemies, which caused a great loss in the palace’s treasures. In v.12-13, some Babylonian officials visited Hezekiah after he recovered from an illness. So, Hezekiah carelessly showed them all the treasures in his house!
This was a terrible mistake! Isaiah asked Hezekiah what he had shown them, and Hezekiah casually answered, “Everything. All my treasures” (v.15)! To this Isaiah declared that one day Babylon will take everything that is in the king’s house to their country (v.17), even the king’s sons will be made eunuchs there (v.18)!
Endtime application: In the endtime, the world will suddenly change to an age of persecution, imprisonment, torture and executions. We should be severe in our attitude toward AC and his political alliances because in the future they will strike the church with vicious cruelty like Russia is doing to Ukraine.
