Devotion 1 of 2: 2 Kings 1
In Rev 11, we see the prophecy of 2 witnesses doing ministry for 3.5 years. These 2 witnesses are the LDC doing the ministries of Elijah and Moses. One thing the 2 witnesses do is judge their enemies this way: “If anyone wants to harm them, fire proceeds from their mouth and devours their enemies” (Rev 11:5).
In 2 Ki 1, we see Elijah speak words of judgment, then fire falls from heaven and burns up 50 soldiers of the king, twice (v.9-12)! I believe this story serves as an example of how this authority to speak words of judgment will work in the LDC in the endtime.
Let’s study and believe what Rev 11 prophesies about the LDC having the authority to judge and let’s prepare for that ministry by growing to full maturity so God can entrust us with that great responsibility.
Devotion 2 of 2: 2 Kings 2
In this chapter we see the famous story of Elijah being taken to heaven by a whirlwind (v.11). Another important story is Elisha asking for and receiving the double portion of Elijah’s spirit (v.9-15). Elijah is a picture of the LDC, but, because he received the double portion blessing, Elisha is also a picture of the LDC!
So, how did Elisha get the double portion blessing? There are several reasons we could point out, but I want to focus on only one—because he crossed the Jordan (v.8). There were some sons of the prophets who represent future leaders. They didn’t cross the Jordan, so they didn’t receive the double portion blessing (v.5-8, 15)!
God wants to lead the church into the Promised Land, where all His promises are fulfilled in His people! This is the 3rd and final stage of the restoration of the church. But in order for us to do it, we must cross the Jordan, which represents dying to self and moving from unbelief to true faith! Let’s cross the Jordan!
