Devotion 1 of 2: Ezek 22
This chapter is another rebuke to Judah for her sins and idolatry (v.2). Judah committed many sins, some listed were: Shedding innocent blood (v.3-4), not honoring parents, oppressing strangers, mistreating fatherless and widows (v.7), despising God’s holy things, profaning Sabbaths (v.8), and other sins listed in v.9-12!
In v.17-22, God warned Judah that He would punish them by putting them in His furnace of fury and melt them there. Of course, this parable was speaking of Judah’s destruction by Babylon and captivity there.
Then, in v.23-31, God rebukes the prophets, priests, princes, and people for their various failures to keep God’s law, triggering God’s wrath and punishment. This passage should be read by pastors, missionaries, church leaders and believers, so we don’t repeat Judah’s sins but aim to become the restoration worker of v.30 instead!
Devotion 2 of 2: Matt 22
In this chapter Jesus deals with the Pharisees and Sadducees. Today, they would represent the Evangelicals, who believe the Bible is the literal Word of God, and Liberals, who believe the Bible is only a guide for living.
In v.15-22, the Pharisees ask Jesus about paying taxes to Caesar. This shows their vision was for Israel’s kingdom to be restored, but this was not Jesus’ vision of a spiritual kingdom for Gentiles also. Today’s Evangelicals don’t understand God’s vision for an endtime revival. They believe Jesus can come anytime to rapture the church.
In v.23-33, the Sadducees ask Jesus about the resurrection, which they didn’t believe. Jesus told them they were mistaken, and didn’t know the Scripture nor God’s power. This shows the Sadducees were not saved.
Let’s love both branches of the church and try to help Evangelicals understand God’s vision of endtime revival and Liberals understand faith in the Bible to get saved.
